We are creating a Holocaust Memorial Garden and Outdoor Learning Space on the lawn between the sanctuary and preschool entrances of the Rodef Shalom building. This project, spearheaded by Caity Blum, our Assistant Early Childhood Education Director, will serve as an edible outdoor education space for our preschool through elementary aged students, as well as a place for reflection and community gatherings on Shabbat mornings and beyond. The garden will include a daffodil section, in memory of the children who perished in the Holocaust and in support of children suffering in current humanitarian crises throughout the world. This garden will also feature a new ADA accessible path for people to go from our parking lot to the main entrance of our building.

This project has the approval of our Rodef Shalom Board of Directors and so far, we have secured 30% of the funding. In addition to this funding, a local landscaping company and their partners have committed to training our volunteers on the planting and upkeep of the garden to ensure this project’s long-term success.

We invite you to help us secure the additional funding needed to complete this project by the beginning of the preschool year and the High Holidays. Your gift will ensure that we continue to plant deep Rodef Roots* for our students, families, and members. Thank you in advance for your contribution and for helping us to deepen our impact on our community and our neighborhood.

*At Congregation Rodef Shalom, our preschool focuses on a concept called Rodef Roots. The idea is that we are using the classrooms and outdoor space to help our students and their families plant strong roots, keeping them connected to the community and giving them strong foundational values for their future. This garden will allow us to expand this concept beyond our preschool and implement it for the whole congregation.
