Rabbi Bernard R. Gerson was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He holds a BA in Judaic Studies from Brandeis University, as well as an MA in Rabbinic Literature from the Seminary. Raised as a Conservative Jew from birth, Rabbi Gerson is committed to maintaining the unique and exciting role that our movement plays in American Jewish life.
Rabbi Gerson's favorite rabbinic role is that of teaching. Whether in the classroom or behind the pulpit, he aims to educate and facilitate congregants' access to their precious heritage and lively traditions. He is inspired by his wife, Sue an educator, and their children, Elliot and Jennie.
Rabbi Gerson has sought to re-create our congregation's approach to Bar/Bat Mitzvah through a host of curricular and extra-curricular programs for our youth in Grades 6-8. He is actively involved with our students throughout their elementary, middle school, and high school years.
Adult education has been another pursuit of our Rabbi. He facilitates a series of discussions, involving both Jews from birth and Jews-by-Choice, as well as his a Talmud class on Sunday mornings and Tanakh & Tabloids class on Thursday mornings. He has also designed a series of Jewish Journey Groups for members of the congregation to explore their personal interests.
In addition to his synagogue work, Rabbi Gerson teaches Bible and Talmud at Denver Jewish Day School.
Rabbi Gerson models the mitzvah of serving the wider community through his activism in the promotion of Organ & Tissue Donation, his involvement as a board member of the Jewish Community Center, and his participation in the Rocky Mountain Rabbinical Council.
An avid sports fan and habitual basketball player, Rabbi Gerson devotes much of his free time to working out and attending Colorado Rockies baseball games.
